Welcome to the New Board of Directors!

On April 21, members of the Bridgeland-Riverside Community Association voted in a new Board of Directors. We have eleven Directors on the Board this year, more than we have had in a long time. We look forward to serving you, the residents of Bridgeland-Riverside, and encourage you to get involved in the process of building a strong, safe community. For more information on the BRCA, and how you can get involved, call 263-5755 or email info@brcacalgary.org.

What is the role of the Board?

The Board is central to the governance system of the community association and the minimum responsibilities are established within the
bylaws of the BRCA
. The Board's expanded role is to oversee management and to ensure that the organization's affairs are being conducted in a manner that achieves the objectives and directives of the membership.

What happens at Board meetings?

Monthly meetings of the Board focus primarilyongovernance issues and secondarily on operational ones as they relate to the sustainability of the BRCA.  Board meetings address issues of policy, planning, resource development, financial management and evaluation of the organization's work.

How do I become a Board member ofthe Community Association?

Submit your name to the BRCA allowing your name to stand for election at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The Executive Committee of the Board consists of the President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Other Board positions, such as the Planning Committee Chair, are also required to ensure that the BRCA remains a functioning, viable entity.

I don't want to be a Board member. Is there another way I can get involved?

If you do not wish to sit on the Board, you could still participate by becoming a Committee member.

Members of the BRCA Committees must be members of the Association. The Committee Chairs usually are members (but not necessarily) of the Board. Currently the BRCA has a Planning Committee, Membership Committee, Programs Committee, Fund Raising Committee, Facilities Committee, Safety Committee, Communications Committee and Events Committee. Committees report to the Board of Directors.

There are also opportunities for volunteering on a per event basis. For example, you could participate in our annual Spring Cleanup, work a shift at the Casino, or submit an article to the community newsletter. See our Volunteer page for details.

You haven't answered all my questions. How can I find out more?
